THE Council for Leather Exports has "applauded" the new Exim policy for "placing adequate thrust on export growth with the basic objective of increasing exports and capturing a greater share in the international trade".
According to a CLE press release, the continuation of the Duty Entitlement Pass Book scheme is a major step for helping the leather industry at this crucial time, despite the rates being rationalised with the reduction of one percentage point across the board.
A significant measure for the industry is the duty-free import of embellishments up to three per cent of the previous year's export performance. This has been a long-pending demand from the leather sector.
Tanners body upbeat
The All India Skin and Hide Tanners and Merchants Association (AISHTMA) has welcomed the Exim policy.
According to an association press release, duty-free imports of trimmings and embellishments up to three per cent of the f.o.b., value would help the industry.
