Chambers Welcome Exim Policy

HM Bangur of Bharat Chamber of Commerce has highly appreciated the Union commerce ministry’s attempts to further liberalised the exports as well as the import sops that have been announced in the Exim Policy.

While expressing his views, Mr Bangur stated that the special sops on exports of agro products and cottage and handicraft products will help developing these two sectors.

“It is highly laudable that the Exim policy has provided transport assistance for agro-product exports and an incentive package for hardware sector.

He also welcomed the move to continue with the advance licence, Duty Entitlement Pass Book and ECGC schemes with further improvements for the next five years. This will allow more time to exporters to cope with the changing global scenario, he added.

The emphasis given on greater involvement of the state governments in export development and market access is a timely initiative in the era of globalisation, Mr Bangur pointed out.

This is an export-led Exim Policy said Mr Niranjan Saha, president of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce. He further said that to boost export growth a number of measures have been declared. Important among them are adoption of a new classification for commodities for imports and exports, redemption on the basis of shipping bills and bank certificates, extension of export obligation fulfilment period from 8 to 12 years, with a five-year moratorium period and offshore facility in Special Export Processing Zones.

He said the new policy is a shift from import liberalisation to export thrust.
