Comprehensive, says Cochin SEZ

EXPORTERS at the Cochin Special Economic Zone has welcomed the new Exim policy as "comprehensive and pro-exports''.

Mr K.K. Pillai, former President, Kochi SEZ Industries Association, said that the policy was aimed at boosting exports and was in the right direction.

However, its implementation at a faster pace needs to be ensured, he added.

The Centre needs to ensure that the interference by the State Governments in matters such as labour and sales tax recovery is not allowed inside the SEZs.

"All such issues need to be routed through the Development Commissioner for the smooth functioning of the units in the zones."

Welcoming the Exim policy, Mr N. Radhakrishnan, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that in the backdrop of the global recession, the policy was comprehensive and would help boost exports.

The provisions made for agri exports would definitely alleviate the problems of the farmers and those in the export trade, he added.
